Location of the municipality of Krüzen in the Duchy of Lauenburg district | ||
Krüzen is a municipality in the Duchy of Lauenburg district in Schleswig-Holstein .
history
The village of Krüzen in the Sadelbande was first mentioned in a document in the Ratzeburg tithe register from 1230 ( Crutsem ). It belongs to a group of Slavic named places, Gülzow , Kollow , Börse, Krukow and Thömen , which are located in the area outside the old settlement area of the Abodrites and whose boundaries belong to the areas that were opened up by the Saxon development at the latest in the 10th century. In the 11th century this area, located on the forest belt and originally forming the border between Saxony and Slavs, was occupied by Polabians who successfully maintained their settlements until the beginning of the colonization period. The place name Krüzen is probably based on Old Polish * krusina "Kiesort" or * krusina "Faulbaum".
