Mustin is a municipality in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein, east of Ratzeburg .
history
The place is probably of Slavic origin. In 1194 the church in Mustin was mentioned for the first time. The Maria Magdalenen Church dates back to the 12th century, but has been expanded and changed again and again over the centuries. In the beginning, especially in the area of the choir, it was built from granite blocks . The buttresses are made of these granite blocks, others are made of field stones or brick . The cross vaults are late Gothic fixtures. The wooden bell tower was added later.
In 1989 the GDR authorities opened an additional border crossing at what is now Bundesstrasse 208 as part of German reunification .
The name refers to the Slavic word moštĭ for power or mostŭ for bridge .
