About this picture
Behlendorf parish hall

Behlendorf is a municipality in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein . Hollenbek is located in the municipality.

geography

Behlendorf is located west of Ratzeburg in the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park on Lake Behlendorfer .

history

In 1194 the community was first mentioned as Belendorpe . The "white village" (beladorpe is said to have Slavic origins: bela = white) has existed since at least this year 1194. Because Bishop Isfried von Ratzeburg separates his private property from the property of the cathedral chapter, the village of Belendorpe and the small village of Minus become Belendorpe mentioned in the deed of separation. In 1374 the Lübeck councilor Thomas Morkerke acquired nine hooves in Behlendorf and in today's Behlendorf district of Hollenbek for 159 marks Lübisch .

In 1424 the village came into the possession of Lübeck , the wealthy "Queen of the Hanseatic League", as an exclave ; the mayor of Lübeck, Hinrich Rapesulver , advanced the purchase price to the city council. In 1747 the place was confirmed as Lübeck property by a comparison in Hanover . The farm and the forest still belong to the Hanseatic city or to the Holy Spirit Hospital today . Hikers can discover the boundary stones with the Lübeck coat of arms eagle. The parish of Nusse-Behlendorf is also part of the Lübeck church district, which is why the pastors wear a ruff like the councilors on old paintings in the Lübeck town hall , instead of the traditional Beffchen in the Lauenburg church district . The Behlendorf village church was built around 1250. It is a stone church with a brick bell tower that was later added to replace an old wooden tower. The wind of time has indeed blown away the wind blades of the Behlendorfer Mühle. But there are old bakery houses or a forge that have been converted for today's purposes. Several thatched roof houses have been lovingly restored and are valuable architectural monuments.

Natural monuments are an 800-year-old oak next to the church and an island in the middle of the Behlendorfer See.

Through the Greater Hamburg Law in 1937, Behlendorf became part of the Duchy of Lauenburg. The Behlendorf estate (259 hectares ) and the Behlendorfer See (70 hectares), however, remained in Lübeck's possession: until 1935 in the direct possession of the city of Lübeck, they have since been the property of the Heiligen-Geist-Hospital foundation in Lübeck through exchange of goods . The forest (450 hectares of forest) remained in the possession of the city of Lübeck.

At the time of National Socialism , around 40 prisoners of war, mainly from the Soviet Union, were used as forced laborers in handicrafts and agriculture . In 1954, the citizens of the small district of Hollenbek decided to belong to the municipality of Behlendorf.

Behlendorf is a "beautiful village". It became district winner in 1990, state winner in 1991 and won a silver medal in the national competition.
