About this picture

Fitzen is a municipality on the Elbe-Lübeck Canal in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein . The weekend areas Heidebrook and Waldweiher belong to Fitzen.

history

The originally Slavic village of Fitzen was first mentioned in the Ratzeburg tithe register of 1230 with the name "Vitsin", which means "place of the mighty". However, there is a perception that the village is much older. Settlers from Büchen Castle built their homesteads near the present-day inn "Zur Fähre", which still belongs to Fitzen. The original Vitsin was finally destroyed by the Thirty Years' War at the latest . Only after the end of this war was the village rebuilt in its current location as a round village. In 1751 the entire village was destroyed again by fire.
