About this picture

Sahms is a municipality in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein .

geography

The place is about 5 km northeast of Schwarzenbek on the Steinau River.

history

The village was mentioned for the first time in 1230 in the Ratzeburg tithe register .

The name Sahms comes from the original name Sabenize (from Slavic, means: Froschbach). As evidence from Stone Age finds, there were settlements here in earlier times.

The village of Sahms is part of the Lanken estate. Is then pledged by its owner with the villages of Elmenhorst and Groß Pampau to the Duke of Holstein and thus belongs to the Trittau office from 1459 to 1736. Then the villages come back to the Duchy of Lauenburg.

In terms of traffic, Sahms was important for the Mölln - Schwarzenbek connection because the ford ran through the Steinau here.

In 1876, the nobility lost their jurisdiction and were divided into administrative districts. Sahms then belongs to the Wotersen district.

On April 1, 1939, Groß Pampau was incorporated into Sahms. Groß Pampau became independent again after the war. Since 1948 the community has belonged to the Schwarzenbek-Land office .
