About this picture

Köthel is a municipality in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein . Köthel is a very small municipality in terms of area and ranks 62nd in the list of the smallest municipalities in Germany .

geography

Köthel is located about 16 km northwest of Schwarzenbek.

The place is divided by the river Bille into a Lauenburg and a Stormarn part , each of which forms independent communities.

history

Köthel was first mentioned in a document as "Cotle" in 1230 in the Ratzeburg tithe register .

Around 1238 a Cistercian nunnery was settled in Köthel, which was relocated to today's town of Reinbek in 1240 as Reinbek Monastery . However, Köthel remained in possession of the monastery until the monastery was dissolved in the course of the Reformation in 1529. The part of the village north of the Bille came to the Reinbek office , the southern part to the Duke of Lauenburg . The two later became independent communities.

The Lauenburg part has been part of the Schwarzenbek-Land office since 1962 .

politics

Since the local elections in 2008, the WGK voter community has all nine seats in the local council.
