Pogeez is a municipality in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein, east of Hamburg . Klein Disnack is located in the municipality.
geography
Pogeez is located on the west bank of the Ratzeburg Lake in the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park . Landesstraße 331 ( Alte Salzstraße ) runs through the village . The federal highway 207 bypasses the place in a westerly direction and leads directly to the federal highway 20 and to the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.
history
Pogeez is of Slavic origin. The village was donated in 1228 by Albrecht , the first Duke of Lauenburg , to the Order of St. John in Jerusalem. As early as 1250, Pogeez with the villages of Klein Disnack, Groß Disnack and Wendisch-Pogeez (Holstendorf) was sold to Reinfeld Monastery for 700 Luebsche Marks and was in its possession until 1482. Then the villages became Lauenburg again.
Incorporations
The formerly independent communities of Pogeez and Klein Disnack voluntarily merged on February 1, 1974.

particularities
The Pogeez bathing area is of considerable regional - and also supra-regional - importance . Founded in 1953 and developed over decades with a lot of voluntary idealism and managed by the brothers Helmut and Horst Kömme, the Pogeez bathing facility is an important base of the German Life Saving Society (DLRG). In addition, the Pogeez bathing area is considered to be the most exemplary facility of its kind far beyond the boundaries of the Duchy of Lauenburg due to its pronounced child and family-friendly orientation.
These positive peculiarities were primarily the reason that the then German Federal President Karl Carstens stopped at the Pogeez bathing site on his much-noticed hike through the Federal Republic of Germany in 1979 at Lake Ratzeburg - not least because of the high socio-political importance at this point To emphasize and appreciate voluntary work as well as to point out the general importance of well-run local recreation facilities.
Transport and infrastructure
With the completion of the bypass in the course of the federal road 207 (B 207 n) in December 2014, the residential value along the old salt road was significantly increased.
Personalities
The CDU politician Meinhard Füllner (* 1941) was mayor of the community from 1972 to 1988.
