meaning

Landesstraße 331 is of great regional importance as a mountain-valley connection. It connects the Königswinterer Tal with the three-lane federal motorway 3 . It is used as a commuter route by many residents of the Königswinter districts of Ittenbach and Oberpleis and the Bad Honnef district of Aegidienberg . Furthermore, with its location in the middle of the Siebengebirge with the mountains Petersberg, Löwenburg and Großer Ölberg, it is of great tourist importance. The historic federal guest house is located on the Petersberg, with the only access for vehicles via the L 331 . The 2010 North Rhine-Westphalian traffic census found a daily load of 10,000–20,000 vehicles on state road 331.

history

Siebengebirgsbrücke before reconstruction (September 2006)

The section of the state road between Königswinter and Ittenbach goes back to a municipal road that was created in 1862 as a poorly developed cart. It was expanded from the Siegkreis to Provinzialstraße in 1927/28 after the traffic on this route became unbearable for pedestrians and residents following the opening of the new access road to Petersberg in May 1927. Contrary to the original plans, the road layout changed only slightly so as not to affect the nature reserve in the Siebengebirge , which has existed since 1923 . For pedestrians, a separate footpath was created on the route through the Siebengebirge from the old town to the Petersberg.

During the construction of the Siebengebirgsbrücke in Königswinter in the early 1960s, the course of the state road changed again. The route was straightened during the subsequent expansion of the road in the 1970s in the section up to the Wintermühlenhof . From 2008 to 2010 the Siebengebirgsbrücke was modernized and converted. In the summer of 2017, the road surface and the drainage systems were renewed on the section between Königswinter and Ittenbach.
