Hiroyuki Takei

Hiroyuki Takei ( Japanese 武 井 宏 之 , Takei Hiroyuki ; born May 15, 1972 in Yomogita , Aomori Prefecture ) is a Japanese manga artist who was best known for his manga Shaman King .

Life

Hiroyuki Takei's career began with the Dojin series SD Hyakkaten he in a fanzine published. In 1993 he took part in a competition of the Manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump , but could not convince the judges of his talent. With Itako no Anna he won the Tezuka Prize a year later .

As the winner of the competition, he gained Nobuhiro Watsuki's attention and was able to work with Eiichirō Oda ( One Piece ) as an assistant on the series Rurouni Kenshin . In 1997, Takei published his first own series, Butsu Zone, in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine . In 1998 he started Shaman King , which became very successful, was filmed into an anime series and translated into several languages. He completed the series in 2004 but began a sequel in 2012 with Shaman King Flowers .

His work deals with spiritual topics. Ghosts and shamans play an essential role in his works.
