church

Marienkirche in Sandesneben

The Marienkirche in Sandesneben dates back to 1278. Its altar was consecrated in 1314 by the Ratzeburg bishop Marquard von Jossow . This is evidenced by a document from the same year, which was walled in in the altar and was found in 1636. The church stands in the village elevated by a good twelve meters on a small, steep hill. The former lattice tower burned down in 1878. This tower, like the neo-Gothic successor built in 1906, did not stand to the west of the church, but to the east of the north side of the nave. One of their pastors is the poet Michael Christoph Brandenburg (* 1694), who served here from 1753 until his death in 1766.
