About this picture

Groß Grönau is a municipality in the north of the Duchy of Lauenburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . It borders directly on the Lübeck district of St. Jürgen in the north and west and forms an agglomeration with Lübeck . There is a branch of the administration of the Lauenburg Lakes Office in the village . Groß Grönau has no other districts.

geography

The eastern boundary of the municipality is the Wakenitz , which is also the state border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on its eastern bank . The Drägerweg runs along the Wakenitz as a hiking trail from Lübeck to Rothenhusen on Lake Ratzeburg .

history

Oldest pictorial representation of Groß Grönau, 1592. Despite the simplistic and distorted execution, the topographical details correspond to reality in their relative relationship to one another: at the top right the Blankensee with the water mill serving as a paper mill at the outflow, which runs along behind the street village Groß Grönau and finally into the Grönau flows into the Wakenitz at the bottom right . The Grönau watermill can be seen in front of the confluence of the Grönau with the Wakenitz. The windmill of Gut Tüschenbek is located on the top left of the hill , further down is the fenced-in, still existing St. Willehad Church and the now-gone Renaissance castle.

The place was first mentioned in 1230. In the 17th century, Duke Franz Erdmann von Sachsen-Lauenburg, who ruled from 1665 to 1666, made the place a residence for a short time .

politics

Buildings

Groß Grönau was mentioned as a church village in the Ratzeburg tithe register as early as 1230 . The choir of St. Willehadkirche dates from around 1250, the younger nave from around 1330 and the more recent tower from after 1700. In the church there is a baptismal font from the 13th century and one donated by Duke Franz Erdmann in 1664 Pulpit. The altar is from 1730. The case of the organ comes from the church of the Johanniskloster in Lübeck, which was demolished in 1806 .

In Klein Grönau , which is part of the Lübeck district of Lübeck-St. Jürgen , there is a brick-Gothic hospital complex in the city of Lübeck. This consists of the infirmary chapel, consecrated in 1409, with a bell cast by Cordt Kleimann in Lübeck in 1659, the infirmary and a courtyard. The infirmary was built with funds from the mayor of Lübeck, Andreas Geverdes, who died in 1477, as a poor house for twelve residents. This is where the Gothic high altar came from the Lübeck Aegidienkirche , which is now exhibited as the Grönau altar in the St. Anne's Museum in Lübeck. Only the predella made later for this altar remained in the Grönau chapel.

traffic

The Alte Salzstrasse (Landesstrasse 331) runs through the town in a north-south direction. The Groß Sarau junction of federal motorway 20 is located in the south . To the west lies Blankensee Airport in the Hanseatic City of Lübeck.

education
