The village church Roggendorf is a medieval stone church in the Mecklenburg community of Roggendorf in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg .

history

Roggendorf was first mentioned in 1194 as Rotgentorp . The village church there is already mentioned in the Ratzeburg tithe register of 1230. The village and later Gut Roggendorf belonged to the von Lützow family from the beginning of the 15th century , who sold the estate to the von Uffel family in Dutzow in 1641. Roggendorf sold this to the von Fabrice family by marriage in 1694 . The von Fabrice family kept Roggendorf until 1887 and then sold it to the von Haase family , who also rebuilt the Roggendorf manor. From 1653 onwards, the patronage of the village church was connected with the lordship of Roggendorf .

Building history

The stone church from the beginning of the 15th century with the nave built around 1407 has a retracted box choir typical of western Mecklenburg at this time of construction. The front gable of the nave and the window frames are made of bricks, as is the group of three windows with the pointed arch in the choir gable. Gothic pillars support the building. The nave is flat, the choir , covered with a ribbed vault, is retracted. The opening of the choir to the nave is designed with a pointed triumphal arch. On the south side, a small brick annex was built on the choir later. The gable of the nave is made from the same building material.

The geböschte church tower is set late 17th century as verbretterter wooden tower west front of the nave and the pyramid helmet has been covered with wooden shingles. There is a clock tower on the west side.

Furnishing

The interior of the church surprises with its colorful design. The old wall paintings were exposed during the restoration after 1970. Romanesque consecration crosses are in the choir. The rib painting was made around 1300.

The church has a carved altarpiece with a baroque tower with paintings depicting Holy Communion and a scene of the crucifixion. It comes from the church in Müsselmow and came to Roggendorf in the 1950s.

The splendid baptismal font made of sandstone is noteworthy and seems to have come from the Brandin workshop in Wismar. The baptismal font in the Dobbertiner monastery church (1586), in Güstrow cathedral (1591/92) and in the Woosten village church (1612) not far from Dobbertin can be seen as a forerunner . The early 17th century can be considered as the time of origin. The baptism is decorated with rich ornamentation from the late Renaissance. It stands on a base plate supported by four lions, on which four Hermes pillars are grouped around an ornamented round pillar and support the shallow basin with cherub heads. On the brass lid donated in 1699 there are fruit motifs executed in driving work .

There are still remnants of the old stalls with simple cheeks, on one door there is a date of 1593.

The richly carved organ front is from the beginning of the 18th century. The organ (II / P / 11) from 1891 comes from the workshop of the Rostock organ builder Julius Schwarz .

According to Friedrich Schlie , the village church of Roggendorf had two bells in 1898 . The larger one was originally a casting by Lübeck council founder Johann Georg Wilhelm Landré from 1796 and was recast in 1851 by PM Hausbrandt in Wismar. The smaller one was the work of Lübeck council founder Johann David Kriesche in 1771. Both were donated by the Fabrice family as part of their patronage.

A special feature of this inland church is a votive ship that hangs in the nave. The Helene von Roggendorf was given to the community by Captain Dieckelmann from Hamburg around 1845. Inside is a prayer sheet with the words: Dear God, let my son Willi be free from his suffering, a sad mother asks for it.
