Roggendorf is a municipality in the southwest of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Gadebusch Office based in the city ​​of the same name .

geography

The community of Roggendorf is located near the state border with Schleswig-Holstein in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve between the cities of Ratzeburg and Gadebusch . Goldensee is located west of the Groß Thurow district on the border with Schleswig-Holstein .

Roggendorf is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Königsfeld in the north, Holdorf in the northeast, Gadebusch in the east, Krembz in the south, Kneese in the southwest, Mustin in the west and Dechow in the northwest.

The districts of Breesen, Groß Thurow, Klein Salitz, Klein Thurow, Lützowhorst, Marienthal and Neu Thurow belong to Roggendorf. On January 1, 2004, the former Dechower districts of Groß Thurow and Neu Thurow were incorporated into the Roggendorf community. Corrections to the border between the British and Soviet zones of occupation ( Barber-Lyaschtschenko Agreement in November 1945) brought Groß- and Klein Thurow together with Dechow to Mecklenburg.

Roggendorf is first mentioned in a document as Rotgentorp in Isfried's partition contract of 1194 . The church is listed in the Ratzeburg tithe register from 1230, which lists the localities that belonged to the diocese of Ratzeburg at that time, sorted according to parishes . In 1369 Duke Albrecht II of Mecklenburg defeated Duke Magnus II of Lüneburg near Roggendorf . The Roggendorf estate, with the patronage of the church, was owned by the von Lützow family from the beginning of the 15th century until 1694 and was then sold by Asmus von Lützow to his brother-in-law, Hofrat von Fabrice, for 9,000 thalers. The von Fabrice family stayed on Roggendorf until the estate was sold in January 1886. Then the estate went to Carl Hermann Theodor Haase , who had the current manor house built by the Hamburg architect Martin Haller . Carl von Haase's son and heir Curt von Haase had the estate's landscaped park redesigned in 1908/1909 by Leberecht Migge .

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Klein Salitz, Klein Thurow and Marienthal were incorporated.

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with a torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription “GEMEINDE ROGGENDORF • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG”.

Economy and Infrastructure

The resident companies include a company that manufactures special trailers and vehicle bodies, an agricultural company, and some craft businesses. It is remarkable that there are more in-commuters than out-commuters - a rarity in rural Mecklenburg.

In the moors around Breesen and Lützowhorst, peat was and is in part extracted to this day .

Transport links

The federal road 208 from Gadebusch to Ratzeburg in Lauenburg runs through the community of Roggendorf. The nearest train station is in the town of Gadebusch, seven kilometers away.
