history

Blowatz first appeared in a document in 1296. In the 8th and 9th centuries, the area was settled by Slavic Obotrites , whose center was the old sea trading center Reric , where Franks, Frisians, Saxons and Scandinavians also lived. More recent excavations have located the early trading town of Reric west of the Groß Strömkendorf district , known as Stromikendorp in the 17th century , in the northeastern area of the Wismar Bay .

By removing a tank barrier against the advancing Red Army at the beginning of May 1945, Hermann Wulff and Georg Scharfs, with the support of liberated prisoners of war, prevented the military from taking the place and thus preventing victims from among the population.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Wodorf was incorporated.

Blazon : “Divided by a wave cut; on top of the division two green willows with black trunk side by side; below in blue an above, jumping silver horse between two golden ears. "

The coat of arms was designed by Michael Zapfe from Weimar . It was approved by the Ministry of the Interior on November 11, 1996 and registered under the number 117 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Reasons for the coat of arms: In the coat of arms, the wave cut refers to the adjacent Baltic Sea. While the pastures are a typical feature of the landscape in the municipal corridor, the horse stands for traditional horse breeding and equestrian sports. The ears of wheat indicate the main line of business, agriculture, especially the cultivation of grain.
