Baumwerder is an approximately 2 hectare uninhabited island in the Breitling in front of a bay. It belongs to the community of Blowatz .
The flat Bodden Island is approximately 325 meters long and 135 meters wide. It has the shape of a triangle with a larger indentation on its north side. It is 50 meters from the mainland.
On the island nest numerous species of birds, including the red-breasted merganser ( Mergus serrator ), the Gadwall ( Anas strepera ) and the shelduck ( Tadorna tadorna ).
Baumwerder is part of the FFH area “ Wismarbucht ” and the European bird sanctuary “Wismarbucht und Salzhaff”.
