Kieler Ort is an approximately 61 hectare uninhabited island 145 meters from the southern end of the Wustrow peninsula , of which it used to be. Kieler Ort is one of the youngest German islands ( Nigehorn is younger). It was separated from the Wustrow Peninsula by a storm, so there is currently a strait about two hundred meters wide between the two parts. The exact time of this event is unknown, but it can be narrowed down to the late 1970s to early 1980s. The island was originally a sand hook , as was the Kirchmesse peninsula in the east on the Wustrow peninsula. Between them lies a shallow water bay, the Kroy. The keel joins on the Baltic Sea side.

The island is approximately 3500 meters long and up to 400 meters wide and flat and lies within the Wustrow nature reserve. It belongs to the city of Ostseebad Rerik .
