Urkevitz is an uninhabited island in Protection Zone II (maintenance and development zone) of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park . It is located in the Baltic Sea between the islands of Rügen and Ummanz ; from the latter it is less than 100 meters away. It is separated from the island of Rügen by the Wittenberger Strom . The island is about 1000 meters long, up to 300 meters wide and 5.3 meters high.
Urkevitz belongs to the municipality of Ummanz . Like the neighboring islands of Liebes , Mährens and Wührens, it is a bird sanctuary. A bridge leads from Ummanz to Urkevitz, but the island is not allowed to be entered.
