Location of the community Pokrent in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg | ||
Pokrent is a municipality in the southwest of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Lützow-Lübstorf Office based in the Lützow community .
geography
The municipality of Pokrent is located 15 kilometers west of Schwerin in a ground moraine area near the sources of the shields . The Schaalsee biosphere reserve is located west of Pokrent .
Pokrent is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Gadebusch in the north, Lützow in the east, Schildenal in the south and Krembz in the west.
The districts of Alt Pokrent, Meierei and Neuendorf belong to Pokrent.
history
The current district of Alt Pokrent is of Slavic-Wendish origin, which means that the place name can also be derived from the Slavic language families. The Polish “kręty” stands for crooked or twisted, the Upper Sorbian word “kruty” for rigid, stiff or narrow. Accordingly, Pokrent means something like "Krummendorf".
Pokrent is mentioned as early as 1230 in the Ratzeburg tithe register , which lists the localities that belonged to the diocese of Ratzeburg at that time, sorted according to parishes . In addition to Pokrent, Alt Pokrent, Kaeselow, Blesse, Renzow, Neuendorf, Schlagfort and Alt Steinbeck were also included. It can be assumed that Alt Pokrent is the old Wendish village and that Pokrent was rebuilt by the Germans. At the beginning of the 13th century Pokrent was owned by the knight Detlev von Gadebusch . Other important noble families, such as the von Blücher , von Lützow and von Bülow families, came into the possession of Pokrent.
The theologian and parliamentarian Theodor Reuter (1813–1864), member of the Mecklenburg Parliamentary Assembly 1848/49, was born in Pokrent.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal
The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with a torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE POKRENT • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG".
Sights and culture
- The Gothic village church of Pokrent was long thought to be the first Mecklenburg church of the post-Reformation period. However, according to Dehio, it probably dates from the 14th century. Dendrochronological studies have shown that a wooden beam from the wooden previous church, which was first mentioned in a document in 1234, was installed in the roof structure. The wooden beam itself was dated around 1195.
- On the way to the neighboring town of Renzow you pass the oldest and largest blood beech avenue in Central Europe.
- There is a village cinema of the mobile cinema in Güstrow as the regional representative of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Film Communication Association with a regular cinema program .
Economy and Infrastructure
In addition to agriculture , gravel mining also plays a role in the community.
The Wittenburg junction ( Autobahn 24 from Berlin to Hamburg ) is about 15 kilometers from Pokrent. The neighboring community of Lützow is on the federal highway 104 from Lübeck to Schwerin and on the Schwerin – Rehna railway line .
