geography

Renzow is about 18 kilometers west of the state capital Schwerin on the upper reaches of the Schilde river . The slightly hilly environment (up to 70 m above sea level) is determined by fields, meadows and small forests.

history

In 1230 the place was first mentioned as Ranzowe in the Ratzeburg tithe register as belonging to the parish of Pokrent .

In 1708 the merchant Jacob Kaspar Müller leased the Gammelin office and in 1714 bought the Groß Renzow manor. Before the Thirty Years' War it had belonged to the Blücher . The large baroque manor complex already had a manor park based on the French model, some of which is still preserved today, in 1770. He received permission from the Schwerin Duke Karl Leopold for 1,000 thalers and 500 ducats to build glass works, which he founded in various places in Mecklenburg. The coveted forest glass produced here was sold through Hamburg and Danzig .

From 1830 to 1891 Renzow was owned by the von Behr family . At the beginning of 1892 the Hamburg merchant Arthur Booth bought the goods Groß and Klein Renzow; the Booth family managed this until the expropriation in 1945. The estates were merged into one estate in the 1930s. After 1945 Renzow was settled in the course of the land reform. The areas were brought into an LPG in the course of forced collectivization. At the end of the GDR era, the LPG "Frohe Zukunft" ran in Renzow. Since the reunification, the Booth family has been working in agriculture in Renzow again. Agriculture still plays a major role in Renzow today.

In 2005 the last remaining wing of the large manor house was demolished.

Every first weekend in September there is a driving tournament in Renzow, in which equestrians from several federal states take part.

Ecclesiastically, Renzow belongs to the village church Pokrent .

On June 7, 2009, the municipalities of Badow and Renzow were merged to form the new municipality of Badow-Renzow. The name was changed to Schildenal in the same year .
