||
The Schilde is a 40 km long left tributary of the Schaale in the west of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The Schaale flows over the Sude into the Elbe .
River course
The headwaters of the Schilde are located in the Neuendorfer Moor nature reserve , which belongs to the Neuendorf district of the Pokrent community , about 20 kilometers west of Schwerin . It turns first in a southerly direction, after about 13 kilometers flows through the Woezer See in the municipality of Wittendbod . From here the Schilde flows in a south-westerly direction, takes in Camin with the Motel the only notable tributary before it flows into the Schaale near Bennin .
The height difference from the source to the mouth is about 43 m (from 58 m above sea level to 15 m above sea level).
The communities of Pokrent , Lützow , Schildenal (all districts of Northwest Mecklenburg ) as well as Wittendbod and Vellahn in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim are located on the Schilde .
Watershed
The source area of the Schilde lies on the North Sea-Baltic Sea watershed : while the Schilde flows over the Elbe into the North Sea , the area north of the sources drains over the Stepenitz and Trave into the Baltic Sea .
