Veelböken is a municipality in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It is administered by the Gadebusch Office based in the city ​​of the same name .

geography

The municipality of Veelböken lies between Schwerin and Lübeck in a ground moraine area between the Radegast and Stepenitz rivers .

The municipality includes the districts of Botelsdorf, Frauenmark, Hindenberg, Passow, Passow expansion, Paetrow, Rambeel and Veelböken.

history

Passow was mentioned in a document as Parsowe in 1230 . The name comes from the Old Slavic prah and points to the Slavic locator , i.e. place of Parš .

In 1944 American airmen were murdered in the community, for which six people, including the Veelböken block warden , were sentenced to death in the Dachau aviation trials .

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with a torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE VEELBÖKEN • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG".

Agriculture plays a major role in Veelböken, several farms cultivate the areas and operate dairy farming and pig breeding. The former manor house in the municipality was converted into a modern old people's and nursing home.
