Michael Tryanowski
Michael Tryanowski (born December 12, 1919 in Veelböken ; † July 27, 2018 in Rostock ) was a street musician and Rostock city original . Since most Rostockers did not know his real name, he was often affectionately called the minstrel grandpa.

Michael Tryanowski initially lived with his mother, who however died when he was four years old. From then on he lived with his Russian foster father. He received his first instrument, a harmonica , as a present from him. During the Second World War Tryanowski was initially forcibly recruited as a forest worker. Only the end of the war saved him from the concentration camp .
Michael Tryanowski received his musical training between 1950 and 1953 at the Schwerin Conservatory, “Folk Music Department”. The accordion , flute , saxophone and drums were the instruments that Tryanowski learned there. For many years he played at weddings and birthdays as well as with dance bands. Tryanowski was also on tour with the Probst circus . As a street musician, he also played in many cities, such as Hamburg , Berlin , Schwerin, Lübeck and Wismar . Most recently he only stood with his accordion and the devil's violin on Rostock University Square or on the Alter Strom in Warnemünde .

Honors
- In honor of Michael Tryanowski, a 32 cm high bronze sculpture, created by the sculptor Wolfgang Friedrich , was placed in the “Rostocker Hof” shopping center in downtown Rostock on August 28, 2014 .
- On his 95th birthday, December 12, 2014, he and the rapper Marteria signed the book of honor of the Hanseatic city of Rostock. Michael Tryanowski makes a brief appearance in the official video for the Marteria song “Mein Rostock”.
- On May 27, 2020, the Lord Mayor of Rostock, Claus Ruhe Madsen, unveiled a bronze statue of Michael Tryanowski created by the sculptor Wolfgang Friedrich in one of his regular places at the fountain of joie de vivre on University Square.
