Kneese is a municipality in the southwest of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The community consists of the districts of Kneese, Kneese Dorf, Dutzow and Sandfeld and is administered by the Gadebusch Office , based in the city of Gadebusch .
geography
The municipality of Kneese is located on the border with Schleswig-Holstein in the hilly area between Gadebusch and the Schaalsee . The national border runs through the Bernstorfer Binnensee within the Niendorfer Binnensee , both northern foothills of the Schaalsee, its southern and eastern parts as well as the area around Kneese lie in the UNESCO- recognized Schaalsee biosphere reserve . In the south, the municipality borders on the Ludwigslust-Parchim district .
Kneese is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Roggendorf in the north, Krembz in the east, Zarrentin am Schaalsee in the south and Mustin and Kittlitz in the west.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Kneese, Hof (also Hof Kneese) was incorporated.
politics
Coat of arms, flag, official seal
The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE KNEESE • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG".
Location on the former inner-German border
The Kneeses bathing area on the Schaalsee is located where the GDR border systems were installed before 1990. The former border troop barracks were converted into condominiums. Since Kneese was in the restricted area , the residents had to live with considerable restrictions. Part of the Dutzow district, including the manor house from the mid-19th century, was demolished because the buildings were too close to the border. Today a bridge completed in 1993 connects Kneese with the neighboring community of Kittlitz . On October 3rd, the day of German unity , there is a joint festival every year.
Three decades after the death of the republic refugee Harry Weltzin , a memorial for GDR border deaths was inaugurated near Kneese. The ceremony took place on August 31, 2013, not far from where he was killed trying to escape on September 4, 1983.
