Bernstorfer inland lake

The Bernstorfer Binnensee is a 1900 meter long and 200 to 500 meter wide section of the Niendorfer Binnensee in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Both lakes are part of the Schaalsee .

The lake takes its name from the town of Bernstorf in the municipality of Kneese on the northeastern bank of the lake, which extends from the northern end of the Schaalsee in a northeastern direction. The western border of the lake is also the state border with Schleswig-Holstein . It is limited to 35 m above sea level. NHN lying lake to the west through two islands, the Kleiner Werder (4.5 ha) and the Großer Werder (8.5 ha). The total area is about 80 hectares. The banks are almost completely covered with reeds.

The Bernstorfer Binnensee is located in a nature reserve in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve and is part of an EU bird sanctuary.
