geography

The municipality of Schlagsdorf is located in a hilly, lake-rich area, of which the Mechower See and Lankower See , which lie on the border with Schleswig-Holstein, are to be highlighted. The town of Ratzeburg in Lauenburg is only about five kilometers away from Schlagsdorf, while the city of Lübeck is about 25 kilometers northwest of Schlagsdorf. The municipality is also part of the Hamburg metropolitan region .

The districts Heiligeland, Schlagbrügge and Schlagresdorf belong to Schlagsdorf.

history

Village church

The place is mentioned for the first time as Zlavti in the endowment document of Henry the Lion, dated 1158, about the furnishing of the diocese of Ratzeburg with lands. In the Ratzeburg tithe register of 1230, the church village is mentioned as Slaukestorp . Also listed there today districts beat Bruges as Slaubrize and Schlagresdorf as Ratistorp . Over the centuries, these names were ground down to today's names.

On October 6, 1813, during the Wars of Liberation, the Lützow hunters met the French in the "Battle near Schlagbrügge".

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Schlagbrügge and Schlagresdorf were incorporated.

In the GDR era , Schlagsdorf was in the middle of the restricted area and could not be reached without special permits. Since reunification , the community has benefited from immigration due to its location in the metropolitan area of Lübeck.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Schlagsdorf
Blazon : “Above a blue shield base, in it two silver wavy strips, split; in front a four-leaved green linden branch in gold; behind in red a silver high cross overlaid with a golden crown. "

The coat of arms and the flag were designed by Schlagbrügger Steffen Wramp . It was approved together with the flag on October 2, 2009 by the Ministry of the Interior and registered under the number 328 of the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Reasons for the coat of arms: The number of leaves of the linden branch in the coat of arms should symbolize the districts, and the branch itself should be used to establish a reference to the Schlagsdorf court linden tree, which has been verifiable since the 16th century. The high cross, raised by a crown, the coat of arms of the Principality of Ratzeburg, reminds of the former affiliation of the places to the Principality of Ratzeburg, which emerged from the secularized Stiftsland of the Diocese of Ratzeburg in 1648. The lakes in the municipality are symbolized with the wavy strips. The fields of the shield refer in the tinging to the Mecklenburg state colors and thus to the affiliation of the municipality to the state of Mecklenburg.

flag

The flag is evenly striped in red and yellow across the longitudinal axis of the flag cloth. In the middle of the flag, spanning a third of the length of the red and yellow stripes, is the municipal coat of arms. The relation of the height of the flag cloth to the length is like 3: 5.

Official seal

The official seal shows the municipal coat of arms with the inscription "GEMEINDE SCHLAGSDORF • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG".

Grenzhus Museum

The Grenzhus in Schlagsdorf is located in the former domain tenant house. Objects from everyday life on the inner-German border are collected, preserved and exhibited here. Behind the presentation in dioramas, films and exhibits is the desire to bring the inner German border and the causal division of the whole world into two politically contradicting systems into the consciousness of coming generations. In particular, the question is dealt with here: How has the inner-German border influenced people's lives? In addition, an outdoor area made of original components shows the schematic structure of the former inner-German border from both sides: East and West.
