Gebhard Jürgen Titge
Gebhard Jürgen Titge , also Gebhard Georg T. (* around 1590, probably in Rotenburg (Wümme) ; † probably 1663 in Ratzeburg ) was a German baroque sculptor .
Titge's life has only been handed down with gaps. It has been assumed that he learned from Ludwig Münstermann in Bremen , but this has recently been questioned.
Presumably coming from Boizenburg , he can be traced back to Ratzeburg in the mid-1620s, where he created a number of works.
In his work he processes suggestions from Dresden (especially Giovanni Maria Nosseni ) and combines them with a freer ornament and figure style, which he probably got to know from master books, in a characteristic way that suggests the cartilage style without leaving too much space for ornament to give.
