The village church Carlow is the church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish Carlow in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg . The community belongs to the Wismar provost in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

Building description

The square choir made of field stones dates from the middle of the 13th century, the nave and the tower were built from 1885 to 1889 and designed in brick in a neo-Gothic style, according to contemporary tastes. In the east and south walls there are ogival groups of 3 windows, the east gable is decorated with panels. Inside, a rare type of vault is noticeable: the gusset arches stretched between the shield arches create an irregular octagon, the corners of which form the eight ribs of the dome vault. At the top of the vault there is a pear-shaped keystone. The triumphal arch is circular.

Interior decoration

Inside the church there is an altarpiece from 1695 with carvings. In the main field an oval painting was attached in 1885, which shows the crucifixion scene. The pulpit also dates from 1695. The pulpit is decorated with twisted columns and carved figures of the evangelists. Above the triumphal arch there is a crucifixion group from the beginning of the 16th century. The votive tablets of the Ratzeburgwer cathedral dean Hartwich von Bülow from 1637 are the work of the baroque sculptor Gebhard Jürgen Titge .

The church has an organ by Friedrich Friese III from 1888.
