About this picture

Hornstorf is a municipality in the north-east of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The municipality is administered by the Neuburg office with its seat in the municipality of the same name .

geography

The municipality of Hornstorf borders directly on the Hanseatic city of Wismar in the west and is about five kilometers from the Wismar Bay .

Hornstorf is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Krusenhagen in the north, Neuburg in the northeast, Benz in the east, Zurow in the southeast, Lübow in the south and Wismar in the west.

The districts of Kritzow, Rohlstorf and Rüggow belong to Hornstorf.

history

Hornstorf (then as Hornestorp) was first mentioned in a document in 1282.

With the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Rüggow became Swedish with the office of Neukloster , the rule of Wismar and the Mecklenburg part of the island of Poel . It was not until 1903, 100 years after the Malmö pledge agreement of 1803 , that Sweden renounced the redemption of this agreement, and the town fell back to Mecklenburg.

In 1883 the community got a rail connection with the Wismar – Rostock line. Four years later, a branch line followed to Karow via Neukloster and Goldberg , which has since been closed.

The typical farms on the Schwedenschanze came into being during the settlement period in the 1930s.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Kritzow was incorporated.

The NVA's radio reconnaissance center (FuAZ Nord) was stationed in Rüggow until the fall of the Berlin Wall .

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE HORNSTORF • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG".

Attractions

The village church of St. Laurentius , built in Gothic style, is the oldest building in the village. The brick church was first mentioned in 1327. However, the church is likely to be a bit older, probably like Hornstorf, which was mentioned 55 years earlier. The simple square west tower was added in the second half of the 15th century.

economy

The 34 hectare industrial area near the Wismar motorway junction is important for the community . Many companies have settled here and have created several hundred jobs.

Transport links

At the Hornstorf stop on the Wismar – Rostock railway line, the RB 11 line on the Wismar - Rostock - Ticino route stops every hour . There is also a direct connection to the Blankenberg (Meckl) train station on the Rostock – Schwerin (– Hamburg) line from the Kritzow district with line 201 from the Wismar bus company .

The federal road 105 runs through the municipality . The Wismar motorway junction is located near the district of Kritzow ; here crosses the 20 motorway the motorway A14 .
