The A 14 at the Wismar junction |
The Wismar motorway junction (abbreviation: AK Wismar ; short form: Wismar cross ) is a motorway junction in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the edge of the Hamburg metropolitan region . It connects the northern section of the federal motorway 14 ( Wismar - motorway junction Schwerin ) with the federal motorway 20 ( Baltic Sea motorway ; Europastraße 22 ).
geography
The motorway junction is located in the municipal areas of Lübow and Hornstorf in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg . The surrounding towns and communities are Wismar , after which the cross is named, and Zurow . It is located about 45 km southwest of Rostock , about 55 km east of Lübeck and about 30 km north of Schwerin .
The Sternberger Seenland Nature Park is nearby .
The Wismar motorway junction has junction number 9 on the A 20 and no number on the A 14. Until it was rededicated as the A 14, the cross on the then A 241 had junction number 2.
history
Until 1997 Wismar had no motorway connection. This changed with the construction of the "Ostseautobahn" designated A 20, the northern section of the A 14, which at that time was still called A 241 , between Wismar and Jesendorf and the intersection of both routes. The section of the A 14 between Schwerin and Jesendorf was opened to traffic on December 21, 2009 and a continuation to Magdeburg is being planned. Upon completion, Wismar would be directly connected to Halle (Saale) , Leipzig and Dresden via the A 14.
Design and state of development
Both motorways have four lanes in this area. All connecting ramps are single-track.
The cross was created as an adapted shamrock. There are no parallel lanes on the A 14. The interlacing stretch is directly adjacent to the right-hand lane of the main carriageway of the A14. The ears were therefore slightly “squeezed” so that the interlacing area can be longer. The route of connecting ramp 174 from the A 14 to the A 20 in the direction of Lübeck will be changed by the middle of 2018.
Traffic volume
The Wismar motorway junction is used by around 39,000 vehicles every day.
