Brüsewitz is a municipality in the south of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Lützow-Lübstorf Office based in Lützow .

The municipality of Brüsewitz borders directly on the northwest of the state capital Schwerin . The North Sea-Baltic Sea watershed runs through the municipality . While the Stepenitz, which rises here , drains towards the Baltic Sea, the Neumühler See , whose north-western tip belongs to Brüsewitz , drains into the North Sea. The Stepenitz flows west of Gottmannsförde through the Rehmsee , which was enlarged by damming at the beginning of the 1980s, and the Faulmühle reservoir , a reservoir into which the Gadebusch Bach flows near Brüsewitz . The Hütterberg , located between the districts of Gottmannsförde and Herren Steinfeld, reaches 95.7  m above sea level. NHN the highest altitude in the immediate vicinity of Schwerin and in the Lützow-Lübstorf office; There is a tower on top of which Deutsche Telekom operates transmission systems.

Brüsewitz is surrounded by the neighboring communities Dragun and Cramonshagen in the north, Pingelshagen and Schwerin in the east, Wittenförden in the south-east, Grambow and Gottesgabe in the south and Lützow in the west.

history

The name is of Polish origin and could originally have been Brezavici or Brysavici (Breza / Bryza = birch, vici = designation of a place), i.e. place of the birches. The birch is a typical tree for boggy, swampy areas, such as can be found in Brüsewitz along the Gadebusch trench. Even today, the small river is accompanied by a wide swampy meadow. It is very likely that the neighboring areas were overgrown with birch forests at the time of the Slavs.

The first documentary mention is dated May 25, 1220. Count Gunzelin von Schwerin gave his wife Oda Bruseuizdhorp (Brüsewitzdorf) as an allodial property (inheritance, no fief). At Countess Oda's request, he also granted the Slavs resident there German law. In the course of the German colonization, the place was renamed Klein Brütz , as the ruling Germans founded a new settlement called Groß Brütz nearby . In 1337 Johannes von Halberstadt was named as Burgmann zu Schwerin in Brütz.

Despite the small name, Brüsewitz remained the main estate with the manorial seat, so that Klein Brütz zu Brüsewitz was renamed from the Grand Duke on October 2, 1820 under the owner von Schack .

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Gottmannsförde was incorporated.

Striking buildings are the culture house built in 1953 and the secondary school with elementary school that was rebuilt and renovated in 1998/99. Only the remnants of the old park have survived from the former manor house in Brüsewitz. The building was blown up in 1988 because the pile foundation was destroyed when the moat was drained. The presumably ducal manor house Herren Steinfeld has not existed for a long time either; the driveway and some park trees indicate the property. Brüsewitz and especially Mr. Steinfeld were able to develop into attractive residential locations after 1990 due to the proximity to Schwerin.

The von Schack family coat of arms is intended to commemorate the work of members of this noble family for Brüsewitz. The four rapeseed blossoms refer to the four districts belonging to the municipality Brüsewitz, Gottmannsförde, Groß Brütz and Herren Steinfeld using a number symbolism. At the same time, the rapeseed blossoms create a connection to agriculture as the traditional main livelihood of the inhabitants.
