|Location of the community Rögnitz in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg|
Rögnitz is a municipality in the south of the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The community is administered by the Gadebusch office based in the city of the same name .
The place name is derived from the Old Slavic word rogŭ or rakyta for horn and means something like Horndorf.
The community of Rögnitz in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve is only a few kilometers east of the Schaalsee , which forms the state border with Schleswig-Holstein . The hilly area around the municipality belongs to the catchment area of the Schilde , which flows over the Schaale and Sude into the Elbe . In the south, the municipality borders on the Ludwigslust-Parchim district .
Rögnitz is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Krembz in the north and east, Wittendbod in the south and Zarrentin am Schaalsee in the west.
The districts of Bentin (incorporated on July 1, 1950) and Woldhof belong to Rögnitz.
The community is still characterized by agriculture.
Rögnitz is the only municipality in the former Hagenow district that has been incorporated into the Northwest Mecklenburg district.
Coat of arms, flag, official seal
The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE RÖGNITZ • LANDKREIS NORDWESTMECKLENBURG".
