The plants that use a special mechanism to spread the seeds of their fruits are called juice pressure spreaders or hygrobal holes .

If the fruits of juice pressure shakers ripen, the cell juice pressure increases and the walls of the fruit swell. If a certain pressure is exceeded, the walls of the fruit suddenly tear open. The energy released in the process spreads the seed widely. While there are many desiccation spreaders in the European flora , juice pressure spreaders are rare. The more well-known plant species that use such a mechanism include the spring herbs , the spray cucumber , which belongs to the Mediterranean flora , the exploding cucumber and the cucumber herb .

This form of spreading is a sub-form of the so-called ballochorie , the spread of plant seeds through centrifugal mechanisms.
