Johann David Kriesche

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann David Kriesche the Elder (* 1715 in Dresden , † 1790 in Lübeck ) was a German piece and bell caster . In 1771 he was appointed council founder of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Kriesche learned the foundry trade in the period from 1727 to 1730 in the Electoral Casting House in Dresden , the tradition of which was founded in the 16th century by the Freiberg foundry Wolfgang Hilliger . Kriesche's journey as a journeyman took him to England and Denmark, where he worked in Copenhagen , among other places . From 1757 he is proven to be an independent foundryman in Schleswig-Holstein , where he initially worked with the foundryman Barthold Jonas Beseler in Rendsburg until 1760 . From here he first turned back to Copenhagen, and then at the turn of the year 1762/63 he settled in Eckernförde as a bell founder. He created over 70 bells in Eckernförde. On July 20, 1771, the council of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck elected him as the successor to Johann Hinrich Armowitz, who died in 1770, as council founder. The prestigious Lübeck casting house on the Lastadie was thus available to him. However, Kriesche kept a branch in Eckernförde in order to continue to receive the (Danish) foundry privilege in the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. His successor as council founder in Lübeck was Johann Georg Wilhelm Landré . Kriesches bells are still to be found in churches in Lübeck and the surrounding areas of Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg .

family

Kriesche's son of the same name, Johann David Kriesche (II) (1764 - after 1799) was born in Eckernförde and learned the bell-making trade from his father, for whom he cast twelve bells in Lunden in 1785 . From 1797 he ran his father's foundry independently. He was accepted as a citizen in Lübeck in 1791 , but was not confirmed by the council as his father's successor in the office of council founder. In 1799 his track is lost.
