Skhirat ( Arabic الصخيرات, DMG aṣ-Ṣaḫīrāt , also Skhirate , Zentralatlas-Tamazight ⵚⵅⵉⵔⴰⵜ Eṣṣxiṛat , Spanish Sjirat ) is a coastal and bathing resort on the Atlantic in the province of Skhirate-Témara in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region in Morocco .

The city is located on the A1 motorway between Rabat and Casablanca , where the Oued Cherrat flows into the Atlantic .

For the year 1970 18,000 inhabitants were estimated. The current population of Bejaâd consists mainly of members of various Berber groups in the area who have immigrated since the 1950s.

economy

The city's economy is largely determined by tourism, but retail trade, handicrafts and the service industry also offer jobs.

Summer palace

In Skhirat there is a summer palace of the Moroccan sultans . The property extends like a terrace over about three kilometers along the beach. It consists of a number of bungalows and villas that house the family, employees and personal security. The throne room is oriented towards a swimming pool , this is followed by the private apartments. The 18-hole golf course is located along the motorway .

On July 10 and 11, 1971, the Summer Palace was the scene of the attempted coup by Skhirat against King Hassan II .
