Life
After an apprenticeship as a piece and bell caster in his hometown, where he is attested as an apprentice in 1709, he first went on a journey, including to Sweden and Lübeck , where he married Anna Maria, a daughter of the council founder Peter Christoph Geier , in 1724 and in 1725 For the first time he cast bells for Bornholm churches that were named with his name . In 1728 he settled in Husum and became the successor to the late Asmus Asmussen, whose workshop he acquired. On February 19, 1729 he received a privelegium speciale from the Danish king and thus a monopoly for the casting of bells in the Duchy of Schleswig and in the royal part of the Duchy of Holstein .
In 1750 he was appointed as the successor to his brother-in-law Lorenz Strahlborn as Lübeck's council casting master. He was buried on January 2, 1771 in the Jakobikirche , for which he had cast the sermon bell in 1756 . His successor as Lübeck council founder was the bell founder Johann David Kriesche from Eckernförde in 1771 .
Theodor Storm made Armowitz, as Franz Armowitzer, the main character in his incomplete story, The Bell of the Poor, which is only preserved in fragments .
