Building history

The single-nave church was built in the early 13th century and is already listed in the Ratzeburg tithe register in 1230. It has a retracted box choir typical for the area with three ogival windows. The nave and choir are vaulted and have windows arranged in pairs on the sides. The extension of the sacristy on the south side of the choir was added later. The sacristy itself also has a ribbed vault from the early Gothic period. The crypt on the north side of the nave is also a structural extension from a later period. The hexagonal church tower in front of the western porch of the nave, on the other hand, is neo-Gothic and was only built in 1872.

Furnishing

The church has early Gothic paintings in the vault of the choir, a Christ enthroned with John and Mary from the period 1250/60. The paintings in the nave are from around 1400 and show the symbols of the evangelists and a representation of the devil. The alabaster crucifix was made at the beginning of the 17th century. The church also contains epitaphs, gravestones and memorial plaques from the von Parkentin and von Witzendorff noble families based in Seedorf and Groß Zecher . In the crypt on the north side of the nave there are ornate metal coffins from the end of the 17th century.
