Limestone and nutrient-poor inland lake |
The Garrensee is a lime- and nutrient-poor inland water in Ziethen near Ratzeburg in Schleswig-Holstein in the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park .
description
Together with the Plötscher See and the Schwarzen Kuhle, it lies in a drainless, Ice Age depression . The lake is about 18 hectares and 23 m deep. It is part of the Salem Moor nature reserve with adjacent forests and lakes .
An aging at Ratzeburg halt glacier has here Toteisblöcke with its meltwater with Sandern covered. After the ice melted, the three lakes remained.
Due to the lack of runoff, the oxygen content of the lakes is relatively low; dead plants sink to the bottom and slowly leading to siltation of lakes. The Salem Moor , which is located near the lakes, shows an advanced stage of this process .
Bathing is partially permitted in three designated places in the lake. The parking lot located on federal highway 208 was severely dismantled in the 1980s in order to reduce the number of visitors. The lake has been owned by the parish of St. Laurentius in Ziethen since 1595 and is leased from them as fishing waters.
