Inland waters

As inland waters (of Low German within = "inside", not to be confused with inland sea ) are all waters which have in the inland areas are no coastal waters , seas and parts of oceans are. The science of life in inland waters is limnology . A distinction is made between flowing and still waters . Estuaries , which are influenced by both rivers and the sea, occupy an intermediate position.

Rivers and lakes can serve as inland waterways . Sometimes inland waterways are used not only for inland shipping , but also for maritime shipping .
