Plan of the village church of Vietlübbe

The construction of the late Romanesque church began between 1220 and 1230. It is already listed in the Ratzeburg tithe register of 1230 as Parochie Vitelube and at that time belonged to the cathedral chapter of the Ratzeburg cathedral . In 1267 the church also took part in the well-known donation of bread and wine from Duke Heinrich the Pilgrim .

The construction plan of the church is very simple and just as rare for Mecklenburgian conditions: It consists of five squares of the same size that together form a Greek cross . In contrast to the Latin cross , the Greek cross has arms of equal length. In terms of planning, the church could have been extended to the usual Latin cross by adding more yokes in front of the western yoke . A semicircular apse is attached to the eastern square . In the 17th century, a pointed, eight-sided helmeted wooden tower was added over the yoke of the western square. The middle yoke over the crossing rests on mighty but very low round pillars.

The church was completely renovated in 1865 by Georg Daniel , and its furnishings were renewed according to the taste of the time. In this respect, at the time of the inventory by Schlie at the end of the 19th century, the Gothic triumphal cross group was in custody in the rectory. Since 1988, the community has had the interior of the church re-Romanized in the style of Ratzeburg Cathedral, dispensing with the usual neo-Gothic painting and parts of the 19th century furnishings. Since then, the inside of the church has given an impression of how the room may have looked as early as 1300.

The furnishings include the limestone Fifth from the island of Gotland and a triumphal cross with Christ as well as a statue of Mary and a John with a book bag . The brass -driven commitment to the baptismal font is a foundation from the year 1697th
