Degtow is a district of the city of Grevesmühlen in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

geography

Degtow is about 2.5 kilometers southeast of Grevesmühlen city center. The site is around 25–33 meters above sea level. The Poischower Mühlenbach flows through the village and flows into the Stepenitz at the Wotenitz district . In the west, the nature reserve Kalkflachmoor and Margelgruben, designated in 1994, borders on Degtow . Enclosed by the protection area is another residential and commercial area 400 meters west of Degtow, which used to be the location of a brick factory. The Lübeck – Bad Kleinen railway line runs north of the Degtow residential area, and the nearest train station is in Grevesmühlen. There are road connections to the city and to the Neu Degtow district.

history

The original name of the place is Degetow. Already in 1230 it was mentioned as Degetowe , 1267 as Deghetowe . The name could have been derived from the Slavic degot for birch tar .

According to Wiebeking's map, the areas that are now under nature conservation were used as pasture around 1780. Around 1817 the Poischower Mühlenbach was straightened and the drainage of the moor started. From the 19th century until 1988, marl was mined for brick production. Peat from the moors was used as fuel , and meadow lime was mined to the west of the brickworks, which the open water bodies still bear witness to today.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Hamberge was incorporated. On July 1, 1961, the Degtow community had to give up its independence. She came to Grevesmühlen.
