The Kalkflachmoor and Mergelgruben nature reserve near Degtow is a 66 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, not far southeast of the town of Grevesmühlen , near the Degtow district . It was designated for the first time on May 9, 1994, at that time with an area of about 61 hectares and the name Kalkflachmoor and clay pits near Degtow . With the ordinance of December 6, 2012, it was designated again, expanded and renamed.
Partial areas of the nature reserve are in the FFH area DE-2132-303 Stepenitz, Radegast and Maurinetal with tributaries and in the EU bird sanctuary DE-2233-401 Stepenitz – Poischower Mühlenbach – Radegast – Maurine . The corresponding areas are thus part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas .
Area description
The protection goal is to maintain a limestone intermediate bog and adjacent grassland areas as well as swamping marl pits.
The state of the area is assessed as good, as the former peat cuttings can develop undisturbed. The conservation area is managed by the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Nature Conservation Union. The wet meadows are mowed regularly to preserve the orchid population. The areas should be kept open in the long term.
The area can be entered on public roads. An information board by the old brickworks gives detailed information.
