The Wakenitzniederung nature reserve is a 297 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, southwest of Schönberg near Herrnburg . It lies entirely in the municipality of Lüdersdorf in the north-west Mecklenburg district . It was placed under protection on April 20, 1990 with the aim of preserving a section of a muddy river valley - the Wakenitz - with peat cuttings and the Herrnburg inland dune as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. The current state of the area is considered to be good.

A small northern section of the nature reserve also belongs to the FFH area DE-2130-302 Herrnburger Binnendüne and Duvennester Moor , which also includes other areas. A small southern part of the nature reserve is located in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve . Directly adjacent nature reserves are the NSG Kammerbruch in the south and the Schleswig-Holstein NSG Wakenitz in the west .

Green band

Because of its secluded location on the inner-German border, the nature reserve is now part of the so-called Green Belt . The nature reserves in the area of the Green Belt in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are (from north to south) in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve the NSG Wakenitzniederung , Kammerbruch , Campower Steilufer , Kiekbuschwiesen near Neuhof , Mechower See , Goldensee , Techin furthermore the NSG Wallmoor , Pipermoor / Mühlbachtal , Stecknitz -Delvenau and in Mecklenburg Elbe Valley Nature Park , the NSG Elbhang "Four forest" , Elbdeichvorland , Rüterberg , inland dunes in small Schmölen and Löcknitztal-Altlauf .
