The Fauler See - Rustwerder / Poel nature reserve is a nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It covers 136 hectares and is located in the southwest of the island of Poel . It was placed under protection on September 20, 1984 with the aim of protecting and preserving a grazed beach wall and hook system as well as a brackish water lagoon on the southwestern Baltic coast .
The nature reserve belongs to the landscape unit of the Wismar Bay , which is classified as an FFH area and bird reserve under EU law . A comprehensive management plan to coordinate the interests of nature conservation , water sports and fishing was drawn up in 2006.
The state of the area is considered to be good. However, increasing pressure from predators affects the breeding success of coastal and meadow birds. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Nature Conservation Union takes care of the area. Part of the nature reserve is owned by the NABU Foundation for National Natural Heritage .
The area may not be entered. Insights are possible from the paths of Hinterwangern and Brandenhusen to the north.
Flora and fauna
The lagoon areas are covered with seaweed . In Spülsaumbereich grow beach and spit-reporting , salt Mieren , Kali Turgida , sea rocket . In the nature reserve there is the typical salt marsh sequence from lower to higher elevations, which is what makes the areas so highly geobotanical.
The breeding birds that should be highlighted are the redshank , lapwing , oystercatcher , midsummer , arctic tern , avocet , ruff , ringed plover and occasionally the little tern . The Faule See is an important resting place for geese , ducks and swans . The green toad finds its habitat in brackish ponds.
