Campower Steilufer nature reserve

The nature reserve Campower Steilufer is a nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the east bank of the Ratzeburg lake . The eponymous village of Campow is not far to the east. In GDR times, the areas were isolated in the border area of the inner-German border , which, due to decades of non-use, is in today's Green Belt of Germany . It was placed under protection on May 15, 1990 at a size of 17 hectares. The protection purpose consists in the preservation of spring-rich hillside and ravine forests with a high proportion of dead wood in the area of the steeply sloping bank slopes. The snail fauna and the occurrence of numerous types of dragonflies, such as the blood-red darter , the great blue arrow and the shiny emerald dragonfly, are particularly noteworthy . The turning neck is a rare breeding bird .

The nature reserve belongs to the development and maintenance zone (Zone II) of the Schaalsee biosphere reserve and is part of the FFH area east bank of the Großer Ratzeburger See (MV) and Mechower Grenzgraben .

The state of the area is considered to be satisfactory. Nutrient inputs from the neighboring arable land lead to impairments.

There are no public roads in the area.

Green band

Because of its secluded location on the inner-German border, the nature reserve is now part of the so-called Green Belt . The nature reserves in the area of the Green Belt in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are (from north to south) in the Schaalsee biosphere reserve the NSG Wakenitzniederung , Kammerbruch , Campower Steilufer , Kiekbuschwiesen near Neuhof , Mechower See , Goldensee , Techin furthermore the NSG Wallmoor , Pipermoor / Mühlbachta , Stecknitz -Delvenau and in the Mecklenburg Elbe Valley nature reserve the Elbe slope "Vierwald" , Elbdeichvorland , Rüterberg , inland dunes near Klein Schmölen and Löcknitztal-Altlauf .
