The nature reserve Teichgebiet Wismar-Kluß is a nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the south-eastern outskirts of the Hanseatic city of Wismar . The area consists of three sub-areas: the fish pond in the southeast, the Wallensteingraben with mill pond in the north and the Viereggenhöfer pond in the west.

It was placed under protection on June 13, 1995 at a size of 228 hectares. A wetland consisting of Wallensteingraben and fish ponds is to be preserved, which is a nationally important breeding and moulting place for marsh and water bird species. The wetland is connected to the Wismar Bay to the north . The state of the area is considered to be good. Due to the proximity to the city of Wismar, there are impairments due to its use as a recreational area. The demands of fishing , water management and nature conservation must be weighed up.

A circular hiking trail leads around the mill pond and provides insights into the world of water birds.

The areas emerged as dead ice forms after the last ice age , which then mossed. In the Middle Ages, they were dammed up to operate water mills and for pond management . During the GDR era, carp were kept in the ponds. When this use was abandoned in the 1990s, the water quality improved.

The flora in the nature reserve is dominated by reed beds made of reeds and cattails . To the north there is an alder quarry at the edge of the water. Breeding birds are the bittern , the marsh harrier , the spotted moorhen , the cane and blowworm , the thrush warbler and the reed warbler, as well as the great tit and bearded tit . A pair of white- tailed eagles breed on the pond bank. Fallen trees serve as a hide for the kingfisher . Resting birds in autumn are shoveler , pochard , lapwing and golden plover .
