The Ramper Moor nature reserve is a 100-hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , which includes a peninsula in Lake Schwerin with adjacent bank areas. The eponymous place Rampe is located one kilometer to the east. It was placed under protection on October 10, 1979 (extension on March 22, 1982) with the aim of preserving a lime-rich silting bog and former meadow areas.

The nature reserve is classified as an FFH area and bird sanctuary under EU law .

The current state of the area is considered to be satisfactory, since various valuable open locations have disappeared since the meadow areas were abandoned. The limestone caves are used in summer despite the ban on pleasure boats, which has a negative effect on the bird world.

There are no public roads in the area. On the lake side, tons indicate the border of the protected area.

history

The Ramper Moor was formed by millennia sedimentation processes after the last ice age . In the area of today's protected area, calcareous groundwater flows from the surrounding ground moraine into Lake Schwerin. The dissolved lime precipitates and formed layers of sea chalk up to 10 meters thick . In the 19th century, these layers were broken down in places in the limestone pits that are still visible today. Until 1958 the meadows were used as litter meadows. The trees that then spread are pushed back by annual maintenance measures.

Flora and fauna

The peninsula is made up of willow and alder trees. Water feather , water iris and swamp sedge can be found in more humid locations . Orchids such as swamp sitters , stiff-leaved orchids and spotted orchids grow in the open meadow areas . Many amphibian species occur, including peat , grass and water frog , toad , grass snake and Waldeidechse . Breeding birds in the area are common snipe , goshawk , tawny owl , sea eagle and sprout . There is also a cormorant colony . Mammals in the area are water bats , otters , pine marten , wild boar , water shrew , bank vole and wood vole .
