The dry slopes near Petersberg is a nature reserve north of the village of Pinnow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It encompasses an area of 44 hectares, consisting of two parts, on a sand area that was created by the last Ice Age at the maximum advance of the Pomeranian main peripheral area. The eponymous Petersberg is located as an elevation measuring 67 meters in the western part of the area east of the Pinnower See . Not far to the east, the Warnow flows north.

The protection goal of the area designated on July 7, 1993 and reduced in size in 1999 is to maintain a dry location with poor grassland , silver grass fields, gorse heather and a light pine-oak forest. The condition of the area is assessed as good. The incipient encroachment caused problems by the arrival of birch and pine seeds.

A path from Pinnow to the Petersberg glider airfield makes it possible to walk through the areas.

The nature reserve is located in the Sternberger Seenland Nature Park .

history

The two partial areas are located in a sand area that extends from Vorbeck to the Lewitz landscape to the south . The sands, washed up by the meltwater from the last icing, reach a thickness of up to 20 meters. In the period that followed, the areas were criss-crossed by gutters, so that today a terrain rich in relics has emerged.

Human use is shown on Wiebeking's map from 1786. The areas are free from forests and are used as fields. Winter rye , sheep fescue and in some places also potatoes could be grown on the poor soils. From the 1960s, the land lay fallow and was used for military purposes. Part of the open land was and is grazed with sheep .

Flora and fauna

The nutrient-poor and dry soil is an extreme habitat that only a few species can use. Lean lawns and gorse heather can be found on the former arable land. Typical representatives are silver grass , heather carnation , silver cinquefoil , small hawkweed , sand straw flower , large sedum plant , farm mustard , mountain sand button , common stony grass and quaking grass .

Trees such as pine , English oak and late blooming bird cherry spread from the forest edges .

More than 500 species of butterflies have been identified in the area, including the mercurial moth, owl butterflies, green hairstreak, swallowtail, C-butterflies and map butterflies. Scarab beetles occur.

Typical breeding birds are woodlark and red-backed shrimp .
