The Pinnower See is located in the Sternberger lake landscape about ten kilometers southeast of Schwerin and 800 meters from the east bank of the Schweriner See within the municipality of Pinnow . On the west bank the water borders on Raben Steinfeld , on the north bank on Godern . The eastern bay of the lake protruding towards Pinnow is called Kirchsee .
The banks are difficult to access as they are very steep and partly overgrown. There are two islands in the lake called Flakenwerder and Fischerwerder . On the south side is the eponymous place Pinnow and in the northeast the place Godern. There are bathing spots in both places. On the south bank is the Pinnow waterworks, which pumps drinking water from a deep aquifer and also supplies parts of Schwerin.
The lake is up to 16 meters deep, the average depth is 6.7 meters. The maximum dimension is 2.9 by 1.7 kilometers. The water level is 27.9 m above sea level. NHN and thus just under ten meters below the water level of the Schweriner See, only 800 meters away, and also ten meters below that of the artificially created Pinnower Kiessee, about 1.3 kilometers away . The Pinnower See lies east of the North Sea / Baltic Sea watershed . It drains through a ditch into the inland lake as far as the Warnow .
