Boissower See nature reserve and southern part of Neuenkirchener See

The nature reserve Boissower See and the southern part of Neuenkirchener See is located in the northwest of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the middle of the Schaalsee biosphere reserve .
The nature reserve is part of the "Schaalsee" European bird sanctuary that was designated in 1992 (EU No. DE 2231-401). It has a size of approx. 86 hectares and covers parts of the town of Zarrentin am Schaalsee in the districts of Boissow, Techin, Neuhof and Neuenkirchen. The nature reserve serves to secure and maintain a narrow, partly muddy erosion valley along the Boissower and Neuenkirchener lakes, which are connected by an approximately 250-meter-long stream, and the associated reed belts , hillside forests, swelling swamp forests and the moorland and forest used as green forest Mineral floor surfaces. The state of the area is rated as satisfactory. Nutrient inputs from neighboring agricultural areas and fishing grounds lead to impairments.
A hiking trail along the east bank and an observation tower provide a glimpse into the areas.
Flora and fauna
Specially protected bird species are the bittern , marsh harrier , the crane , kingfisher , Warbler and middle spotted woodpecker , red kite , red-backed shrike , but also gray goose , white-fronted goose , bean goose and tufted duck .
Particularly protected habitat types cover an area of around 50 hectares of the nature reserve, in particular:
- natural eutrophic lakes with magnopotamion or hydrocharition vegetation ,
- Rivers of the planar to montane level with vegetation of the Ranunculion fluitantis and Hydrocharion,
- poor lowland hay meadows ( Alopecurus pratensis , Sanguisorba officinalis ),
- Wald-Hainsimsen-Buchenwald ( Luzulo-Fagetum ) and
- Alluvial forests with Alnus glutinosa and Fraxinus excelsior .
In addition, the occurrence of otters , wolffish and beaver should be protected.
