The entire Bolzer See and the surrounding shore region is a nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It covers an area of 112 hectares and was designated on April 21, 1965. The eponymous place Bolz is to the north.
An uncut landscape with the eutrophic Bolzer See and the adjacent bank and silting belt is to be preserved, which also contains an inland breeding colony of cormorants and gray herons . The state of the area is assessed as satisfactory, as intensive land use since the 1970s has led to nutrient inputs and displaces the originally existing mesotrophic vegetation with swamp trident and candelabrum algae .
A path from Bolz enables an insight into the area.
The nature reserve is located in the Sternberger Seenland Nature Park .
